Reggie's fascination for "The Red Elvis", Dean Reed, led not only to her book but to making her first documentary film with director Leslie Woodhead. The film, made in 1992 for HBO/BBC charts her as she moves from East Berlin to Moscow in search of the true story behind the American pop singer who was unknown at home in the USA, but who, from the 1960s until his mysterious death in 1986, was the biggest star in the Soviet Union.

Tom Hanks to play Dean Reed

Tom Hanks production company "Playtone" has purchased the film rights to Comrade Rockstar and Hanks himself is set to play The Red Elvis, Dean Reed.
